Foster Parent  Roles & Responsibilities

 

GCAC of Georgia foster parents are volunteers who are vital members of the GCAC of Georgia team. Foster Parents work in partnership with DFCS, CASA, Independent Living Coordinator, treatment providers, and GCAC of Georgia staff. Below you will find other roles and responsibilities of our foster parents.

 

  • GCAC of Georgia foster parents are vital participants in the child’s treatment care plan and will assess the child’s treatment progress by journaling/completing behavioral charts on the child and providing input to GCAC of Georgia caseworker minimally during the monthly home visit and/or attending staff conferences.
  • Foster parents are responsible for obtaining prior approval before making any major decisions regarding the care of the child and/or the foster care situation (including but not limited to out of town trips and vacations).
  • Foster parents are to report to GCAC of Georgia any revelations of physical or sexual abuse shared with foster parents by child.
  • Foster parents are to assume responsibility for ongoing medical treatment of the child, to administer medication as prescribed, and seek emergency medical treatment when needed.
  • Foster parents are to transport foster child to medical and therapy appointments, tutoring, extracurricular activities and school related events.
  • Foster parents are to maintain a safe and stable home environment per state guidelines.
  • Foster parents are to meet annual training requirements.
  • Foster parents are to substitute, not replace birth parents. Their role is to support the reunification with the birth parent and to support and nourish the birth parent/ birth child relationship.
  • Foster parents are to serve as positive role models.
